About the event
Step into the mystical world of Pacific Northwest folklore and create your own forest guardian using bark, moss, copper, and natural textures. This hands-on workshop weaves together ancient Coast Salish and Haida storytelling traditions with modern STEAM learning, perfect for families, friends, and anyone seeking a deeper connection with nature.
What You'll Experience
Transform raw materials from the forest into a powerful personal totem that tells your story of protection, growth, and transformation. Working with bark slabs, textured fibers, moss, copper wire, and natural dyes, you'll craft either a standing guardian or wall-mounted protector that captures your unique spirit.
Rooted in Ancient Wisdom
Drawing inspiration from legendary Pacific Northwest tales like the Cedar Woman - who transformed into a great tree to protect her village - and the mythic Watchers of the Trees, participants explore how Indigenous cultures have long used natural materials to create objects of power and meaning.
